The Colonists’ first score was set up by David Lopez’s 80-yard kickoff return 2:13 into the second quarter. Although Clavon Jubrey saved a touchdown by shoving him out of bounds at the Kennedy 11-yard line, the Colonists (0-2) scored three plays later when defensive back Jeff Anderson tipped a Ryan Patterson pass and the ball landed in the hands of Juan Jimenez for a 3-yard touchdown catch.

The touchdown by Jimenez (six catches, 82 yards) cut Anaheim’s deficit to 21-7.

Each team returned a fumble for a touchdown. The first came on a kickoff return by Lopez, who had the ball jarred loose by Anderson. Steve Benavente picked it up and ran it in from 17 yards, making it 21-0.

Benavente also fumbled on a carry from scrimmage. Defensive back Ernesto Rangel recovered the ball and ran 75 yards for a touchdown.
