Clinton to Hold Talks With Barak, Arafat

The leaders of Israel and the Palestinians will hold separate meetings with President Clinton this month in Washington to push along negotiations toward a final settlement in September, the White House said. Israeli Prime Minister Ehud Barak will be in Washington on Tuesday and Palestinian Authority President Yasser Arafat on April 20. “The separate consultations are part of the United States’ continuing efforts to reach Arab-Israeli peace,” the White House said in a statement. U.S.-mediated teams of negotiators trying to narrow wide differences between the two sides resumed talks Friday at Bolling Air Force Base near Washington.
