United Way of America, which represents 1,500 chapters across the nation, gave its top donor award Saturday to Bank of America at a Los Angeles ceremony.
In 1999, Bank of America contributed more than $37 million to the United Way.
United Way officials said the bank recently announced that it would be giving an additional $50 million to the nonprofit organization during the next five years to help fund child development programs. Of that money, an initial grant of $250,000 will go to the United Way of Greater Los Angeles.
