Canyons Nails Down Title, 5-4

Sandra Rodriguez’s two-run home run in the sixth inning gave College of the Canyons its second consecutive Western State Conference Southern Division softball title with a 5-4 victory over Bakersfield on Thursday at Canyons.
Canyons (35-5, 19-0 in conference play) trailed, 4-2, before Val Reyes hit a run-scoring single and Rodriguez hit her sixth homer over the 220-foot sign in center field.
Reyes squeezed home a run and Lacy Bregger hit a sacrifice fly in the first inning for Canyons.
Corrie Atwood (5-3) entered in the third inning and held Bakersfield to two hits.
Glendale 1, Valley 0--Zulema Argota scored from third on a passed ball in the sixth inning of a WSC Southern Division game at Scholl Canyon Park in Glendale.
Desiree Demchak (15-19) pitched a two-hitter for Glendale (15-20, 8-11).
El Camino 6, Glendale 4; Long Beach 12, Glendale 10--Jason Botts hit two home runs, but the Vaqueros (15-21) lost two games at the Fullerton tournament.
