Smog Competition

* I read that L.A. is once again the nation’s smoggiest city, after being put in second place last year by Houston (Aug. 24). I was one of the cyclists arrested on Aug. 15 in downtown L.A. for riding our bikes and advocating “more bikes, less cars” and less pollution. As a condition of being let out of jail I was forbidden by the judge from riding a bicycle at least until my case goes to trial. I am, however, permitted to drive.
It’s nice to see that the LAPD and the judge, with their “ride a bike, go to jail” policies, are contributing to making L.A. No. 1 again. Take that, upstart Houston!

Now that Gov. Gray Davis presides over the state with the nation’s smoggiest city, I guess the press will castigate him just as it has Gov. George W. Bush of Texas. Not! The liberal press unfortunately never chastises fellow liberals. Does this now make Gov. Davis “anti-environment”?
