Man Held Without Bail in Slaying of Northridge Jeweler

A San Fernando Superior Court judge Monday ordered a man charged with killing a Northridge jewelry store owner to be held without bail until his arraignment.
Gaik Papazyan, 27, is accused of killing jeweler Karo Zeytounyan, 44, of Diamond Bar in a botched robbery attempt Thursday, making him eligible for the death penalty if convicted.
Los Angeles Police Det. Brad Cochran said the robbery attempt elevated the slaying to a death penalty offense.
Zeytounyan, a native of Armenia and a married father of two, had planned to close the store at the end of the month because business was slow, police said.
Papazyan’s arraignment has been scheduled for Dec. 18.
Police are searching for other suspects.
