* Festivities--The Santa Barbara Symphony presents its New Year’s Eve pops concert at 8:30 p.m. Sunday at the Arlington Theater, 1317 State St., Santa Barbara. The evening features B.J. Ward and his stand-up comedy and Fred Stickler with a tap-dance concerto, plus a “Post Pops Cork-Popping Party,” featuring fortune-telling, hors d’oeuvres, desserts and champagne. The party is at the University Club at 1332 Santa Barbara St. $25-$45 for concert only; $75-$150 for concert and party. 963-4408.
* First Night--”First Night Santa Barbara 2001” begins Sunday at 2 p.m. at various downtown Santa Barbara venues. The event runs until midnight and features musical concerts, art installations, exhibits, arts and crafts, a people’s procession, theater, multimedia displays, street performers, children’s activities, dance and a fireworks display at midnight.
