RANCHO SANTA MARGARITA
The City Council will consider placing a crossing guard at the intersection of Alma Aldea and Avenida de las Fundadores at their meeting tonight. The California Highway Patrol in November requested that a crossing guard be assigned to the intersection because of the high volume of traffic on the streets and the proximity of Santa Margarita Intermediate School and Cielo Vista Elementary School.
A report from the interim assistant city manager, George Wentz, states that although crossing guards are not normally assigned to intermediate schools, a guard would be appropriate at this location because a large number of students from the elementary school cross there as well. According to the city staff report, a crossing guard stationed at the intersection during the morning and afternoon would cost the city $8,000 to $10,000 per year.
