Casey Hamel of Santa Margarita High has signed a letter of intent to play women’s soccer at Florida, the high school announced.
Hamel helped the Eagles to the Southern Section Division II title her freshman year, when she was a second-team Times’ Orange County selection.
She stopped playing high school soccer after her first season to concentrate on playing for her club team, the Southern California Blues, and in the Olympic Development Program.
FOOTBALL
Allen Carter, who coached Anaheim football for the last six seasons, has resigned.
Carter, the school’s activity director and a business teacher, went 15-45-1. The Colonists were 1-9 last season, ending a 24-game losing streak, and finished 0-5 in the Orange League. They won the league title in 1996.
“The administration and myself sat down and figured it was time for me to step away,” Carter said. “I’ve been doing a lot of things and I brought them one championship and a lot of losses. It’s part of the business.”
Carter was a Southern Section player of the year in 1970 at La Verne Bonita High, and played running back at USC and in the NFL with New England.
