CSU’s Teacher Training Program

* At the 23-campus California State University system, which prepares about 60% of the teachers in California, we are working to reduce the number of teachers who hold only emergency permits (“The Untrained Bolster O.C. Teaching Staffs,” Jan. 30).
That is why we created CalStateTEACH, an intensive site-based teacher preparation program that allows elementary teachers to earn their full credentials in 18 months while continuing to work full time in the classroom.
We have enrolled 500 students in this program since it began in fall 1999.
By offering high-quality and accessible teacher preparation programs like this one, we hope to ensure that all California students have the well-prepared teachers they deserve.
Interested teachers can get more information at www.calstateteach.net.
