Meeting Set on Forming Neighborhood Council

HOLLYWOOD — The first step toward organizing a neighborhood council for the Hollywood area will be taken tonight when activists meet to discuss boundaries for the proposed council area.

Creation of a citywide network of citizen panels was mandated last year with voter approval of a new Los Angeles City Charter. Backers envisioned them as a network of advisory groups made up of residents, business owners and school and church leaders.

The 7 p.m. meeting will be held at the Mears Center at the First Presbyterian Church of Hollywood, 1760 N. Gower St. It will be sponsored by the Hollywood Neighborhood Council, a group of residents of the mid-Hollywood and Hollywood Hills areas.

The group hopes “to ensure that our community has the opportunity to create a neighborhood council that is all-inclusive, fair, and that reflects neighborhood concerns and needs,” said Fran Reichenbach, an organizer of the group.

Among those invited to speak at tonight’s meeting are representatives of the Cahuenga Pass Property Owners Assn., the Hollywood Heights Assn. and Hollywood VOTE, an organization pushing for a feasibility study on independent cityhood for Hollywood, according to organizers.
