A Saturday evening apartment fire has left an Anaheim family of six homeless, fire authorities said.
It took 22 firefighters about 10 minutes to extinguish the flames in the one-story, two-bedroom apartment on West Lombard Place, said Battalion Chief John Kelly.
No one was injured.
The fire was limited to the home’s recreation room, and no other apartment units were damaged.
The family--two adults and four children--had fled the apartment before firetrucks arrived, Kelly said.
Fire officials estimated $20,000 in smoke and fire damage and an additional $5,000 in personal property losses.
“It was a quick response and quick knockdown of the fire,” Kelly said. “We prevented extensive loss to the property. Hopefully, the residents can get things fixed up soon and move back in quickly.”
Officials have not determined the cause of the blaze, but investigators found a smoke detector with its batteries removed, Kelly said.
The Red Cross provided clothing, basic personal necessities and toys for the youngest children. The family is staying with relatives.
