Matadors Find Way to Reach Regional
Surprise, surprise.
The Cal State Northridge softball team has done it again.
On the heels of its worst season since moving up to NCAA Division I in 1991, Northridge was granted its ninth consecutive regional playoff berth.
With a meager .520 winning percentage and its second consecutive third-place finish in the Big West Conference, Northridge (26-24-1) is headed to Regional Three in Norman, Okla.
Winners of each of the eight six-team, double-elimination regionals advance to the Women’s College World Series in Oklahoma City on May 24-29.
The Matadors will open against Arkansas (41-28) on Thursday at 12:30 PDT. The Razorbacks defeated Northridge, 1-0, in their only meeting Feb. 19. Tammy Kincaid and Rachel Talley combined on Arkansas’ first no-hitter.
In other first-round games, Oregon State (37-19-1) plays Northwestern (28-24) and top-seeded Oklahoma (56-8) hosts Harvard (19-19).
