Capistrano Valley, McConnell Edge Rialto

Kellan McConnell had three hits, including a first-inning home run, and earned his fourth save as Capistrano Valley defeated Rialto, 6-5, in a Southern Section Division I first-round baseball game Friday at Capistrano Valley.
McConnell entered the game in the seventh with runners on second and third and nobody out. He induced a ground-ball double play, then got the next batter to pop out.
It was the eighth consecutive victory for the Cougars (19-8), who will play at Fountain Valley (19-9) Tuesday in the second round.
The Knights finished the season 20-6.
