Several eighth-graders at Ladera Vista Junior High School won first place in the mathematics division of the 34th annual California State Media festival last month. The winners, who were announced this month, are Jerrod Arsulich, Ronald Blanco, Andrew Dinh, Christopher Koontz and Tony Mendoza, who won for their two-minute video, “Too Bad Chili,” a commercial they created for a fictitious company. The boys worked in conjunction with their pre-algebra class to research statistics and bolster their project.
The students will receive a plaque during an awards ceremony June 3 at Golden West College in Huntington Beach.
