SRINAGAR, India — Fifteen people--14 suspected separatist guerrillas and a civilian--have been killed in gun battles with Indian security forces in India’s troubled state of Jammu and Kashmir, police said Tuesday.
They said Indian security forces shot dead four militants from the Pakistan-based Jaish-e-Mohammad group Monday night at Arin village on the outskirts of Bandipore, 35 miles north of Srinagar.
The Jaish-e-Mohammad militant group was recently launched by a Pakistani cleric, Mulana Masood Azhar.
In another gun battle Monday, security forces shot dead four unidentified militants in Kupwara district north of Srinagar, police said.
Police said two militants and a civilian had also been killed in separatist violence across the Himalayan valley since Monday evening.
Earlier Tuesday, police said four Pakistani militants were killed in an ambush near the border Monday.
