Esperanza Defeats Marina in Golf

Kayley Parrett’s eagle on the fifth hole Tuesday helped 10th-ranked Esperanza defeat Marina, 129-131, in a Sunset League girls’ golf match at Meadowlark.
Parrett, a sophomore, drove the ball into a greenside bunker on the 308-yard par four, then chipped in for the eagle. Parrett also birdied No. 4, a 476-yard par five, during her round of two-over 36.
In another Sunset League match:
No. 6 Los Alamitos 127, Edison 146--Sophomore Jamie Oliver earned medalist honors for the Griffins (12-1, 7-0) with a 38 at par-36 Mile Square Park.
In the Sea View League:
No. 4 Aliso Niguel 126, No. 9 Irvine 131--Leisl Hasbrouck and and Charmaine Erasmus shot a 41 for the Wolverines (12-1, 5-0) at par-36 Oak Creek.
In Century League girls’ tennis:
No. 6 Canyon 12, Santa Ana Valley 6--Kathryn Huey and Susan Kean swept, 6-0, 6-0, 6-0, in doubles for host Canyon (15-3, 6-0).
In the Sea View League:
No. 4 Woodbridge 13, Laguna Hills 5--Sophomore Elizabeth Exon didn’t lose a game for host Woodbridge (16-4, 5-0).
In the Serra League:
No. 5 Mater Dei 13, Rosary 5--Freshman Carolina Velasco, the No. 2 singles’ player, and No. 1 Jodie Nygaard swept for the host Monarchs (8-3, 5-0).
In the Sunset League:
No. 7 Los Alamitos 13, Marina 5--Freshman Gia Nafarrete swept, 7-6, 6-0, 6-0, the first set being a victory over defending Sunset League individual champion Christina Weng.
In Sea View League girls’ volleyball:
No. 4 Newport Harbor 3, Aliso Niguel 0--Katie King had 12 assists, four aces and three digs and sophomore Claire Allen contributed a match-high six kills for the host Sailors (9-5, 3-1), who won, 15-4, 15-1, 15-4.
In the Serra League:
No. 2 Mater Dei 3, Santa Margarita 0--Ashley Bayer had 16 kills and Whitney Pavlik added 10 for Mater Dei, which won, 15-8, 15-9, 16-14.
In the South Coast League:
No. 1 San Clemente 3, Mission Viejo 0--With 13 kills and 16 digs, Katie Daly paced the top-ranked Tritons (14-1, 5-0), who won, 15-9, 15-0, 15-10.
