David M. Haskell, 52, actor remembered for stage and screen versions of “Godspell.” In addition to the modernized version of the story of Jesus Christ on Broadway and on film in the early 1970s, Haskell was remembered for his role as Nick Hartley in the prime-time soap opera “Santa Barbara” in the 1980s. On stage, he ranged from Broadway and a Lincoln Center production of Shakespeare’s “Measure for Measure” opposite Meryl Streep to the South Coast Repertory in Costa Mesa, where he starred in “Benefactors” in 1987. Haskell was in such films as “Seems Like Old Times,” “Deal of the Century,” “Body Double” and “The Boost” and appeared in several television movies and miniseries including “Missing Pieces,” “Policewoman Centerfold,” “Princess Daisy” and “Mickey Spillane’s Mike Hammer: More Than Murder.” Haskell also chaired a committee to direct restoration of his historic Studio City church. On Aug. 30 at the Motion Picture & Television Fund Hospital in Woodland Hills of brain cancer.
