YORBA LINDA

The city has halted plans for a public skate park, at least for now.
The City Council voted 3 to 2 Tuesday against a proposal to formally study Arroyo Park as a location for the skateboard course. Councilmen Mark Schwing and Henry W. Wedaa supported the site, with the other three members opposed.
Councilman John M. Gullixson, one of those against the Arroyo site, said Thursday that he felt the location was unsafe and too small. Although located relatively far from homes, the site lies next to Yorba Linda Boulevard, he said.
Schwing said a vote in favor of Arroyo would not have been final.
“We have long ago promised the kids in our city a skate park,” he said. “What I voted for was to begin a seven-step planning process on it. We could have stopped it at any time.”
