Police searched Tuesday for four men who broke into a Canoga Park apartment, pistol-whipped a man and sexually assaulted a woman before robbing them, authorities said.
The 30-year-old man and 25-year-old woman were sleeping at an acquaintance’s apartment in the 2100 block of Gresham Street when they were awakened about 3:30 a.m. by four men, two of whom were armed with pistols, said Officer Eduardo Funes, of the Los Angeles Police Department.
The man tried to fight back but was beaten in the head with a pistol, and the woman was beaten and sexually assaulted, Funes said. The suspects tied up the victims and demanded money.
As the robbers ransacked the apartment, the man untied himself and ran for help, but the suspects fled with an unknown amount of cash and jewelry before police arrived, authorities said.
The victims were treated at a nearby hospital.
Detectives from the Rape Special Section of the LAPD’s Robbery-Homicide Division are searching for the four men. Anyone with information should call (213) 485-2921.
