Skinner Is Still Running Strong for Childress

Associated Press

Mike Skinner, let go from his Winston Cup ride with Richard Childress Racing earlier this week, won the pole Thursday for the Busch series Food City 250 in another RCR car.

Skinner ran a lap around Bristol Speedway at 124.460 mph to earn the top starting spot for tonight’s race. He held off Kevin Harvick, who ran a lap at 124.371 mph to put two RCR cars on the front row.

The pole was some solace for Skinner, who was told Monday that Childress would not be keeping him in the Winston Cup car after this season. Skinner has one year left on his contract with RCR, but is now looking for a new job.

“We’re not going to have any trouble finding a job,” Skinner said.

Jeff Green, who will drive a Winston Cup car for Childress next season, qualified third. Kenny Wallace was fourth and was followed by Greg Biffle, who wrecked his car on his qualifying lap and will have to go to backup for the race.
