La Quinta 21, Barstow 7--Frederick Collins returned a fourth-quarter interception 100 yards with 20 second left in the game to seal the victory for La Quinta in a Division VIII at La Quinta High.
La Quinta (12-0-1) scored first on an eight-yard run by Collins at 5:08 of the second quarter and the Blackhawks took that 7-0 lead into halftime.
Barstow (8-5) tied the score in the fourth quarter when Edward Wheeler scored from five yards out with 6:09 remaining. La Quinta regained the lead on Collins’ three-yard run with 2:19.
Collins finished with 95 yards in 22 carries, and Barstow’s C.J. Niusulu carried five times for 39 yards. This was a rematch of last year’s Division VIII title game won by La Quinta.
