Messina, New Police Chief, Is Long-Timer

Police Capt. Michael J. Messina, a 26-year law-enforcement veteran, has been appointed police chief, city officials said Monday.
Messina, who will succeed retiring Chief William Lentini on Jan. 11, is a longtime Brea resident. He began his career as a Brea police cadet in 1974 and became a reserve officer, patrol officer, detective, sergeant, lieutenant and captain.
His awards include a Commendation for Courage and Bravery, a Secret Service Commendation, an Orange County Narcotics Officer of the Year award and a Presidential Award for Bravery.
