Kilpatrick 90, Serra 85--Donald Johnson of Kilpatrick made a three-point basket with less than one second remaining in the fourth quarter to force overtime and the Mustangs shut out Serra (17-11) in the extra period.
Keilon Fortune scored 31 but fouled out early in the fourth quarter for Kilpatrick (25-1).
Javier Dena finished with 19 points, 13 rebounds, four steals and four blocked shots for the Mustangs.
DIVISION I-AAA
Ontario 83, Highland 49--With a relentless defense and an opportunistic offense, Ontario ended Highland’s playoff run in a quarterfinal game at Highland High.
The Jaguars (25-4) scored 30 points off 34 turnovers.
Highland (14-14) had 18 turnovers in the first half to trail, 38-25.
“That was the best defensive team I have seen in high school basketball,” Highland Coach Jeff Smith said. “I was overwhelmed at the start and I think the team was too.”
Marlon Mitchell led the Jaguars with a game-high 24 points. David Stepney scored 16 and Cameron Munoz had 10.
Ontario was especially tough on Highland senior guard Gabe Stevenson. Stevenson, who scored 24 points in Tuesday’s 58-46 upset victory over Arroyo Grande, was held to five points.
The closest Highland got was 43-30 in the third quarter when Idel Dawson converted on a three-point play with 6:07 left. Ontario went on a 13-2 run over the next three minutes to extend its lead to 58-32.
Mike Stevenson led Highland with 20 points. Dawson added 14.
