Naming a musical group is often a challenge. The Calico Winds named themselves with a word that suggests the many colors and textures a wind quintet like theirs can play. They also want to suggest they have a wide spectrum of musical styles to draw on. The members are flutist Eileen Holt, oboist Beth Syverson, clarinetist Kathryn Nevin, bassoonist Theresa Treuenfels and horn player Rachel Berry. The Los Angeles ensemble will play works by Bach, Danzi, Mahler and others.
