* Gillette Co. said fourth-quarter profit from continuing operations edged up 3% to $345 million, or 33 cents a share, a penny better than forecasts. Sales rose a slight 0.7% to $2.82 billion, as a slump in Duracell battery sales offset surging sales of Mach3 blades.
* Honeywell International Inc. said profit fell 10% to $569 million, or 70 cents a share, because of higher materials and overhead costs and business decisions related to its pending acquisition by General Electric Co. The results missed forecasts by one cent. Revenue grew 5% to $6.45 billion.
* Reliant Energy Inc., owner of Texas’ second-biggest utility, said fourth-quarter profit was unchanged at $73 million, or 25 cents a share, as the company set aside money for possible power-trading losses in California. Revenue more than doubled to $9.87 billion from $4 billion. The company said it set aside $26 million after taxes in case California utilities don’t pay their bills. That reduced earnings by 9 cents a share. Analysts had expected earnings of 33 cents.
