Police have released the names of two officers involved in a fatal shooting Friday of a man who was attempting to rob a doughnut shop.
They are Jack Kujawa, 33, an eight-year veteran, and Tim Kelley, 29, who has been on the force for five years. They will remain on paid leave for several days, according to department policy.
Officials said both officers opened fire on Larry Brown, 27, of Oxnard, who was shooting at them while trying to rob Poster’s Donuts on West Magnolia Avenue about 2 a.m.
Kujawa and Kelley had staked out the shop because of a recent series of holdups there.
This was the fifth officer-involved shooting in Oxnard this year.
In January 1998, Kujawa shot and killed 46-year-old Albert Trujillo Flores of Oxnard. Flores allegedly threatened Kujawa with a screwdriver after being stopped for riding his bicycle erratically. The shooting was ruled justified.
which drew about 30,000.
