Oxnard def. Montebello Schurr, 15-12, 15-10, 15-11--Lamar Ludy had 13 kills and the Yellowjackets (10-7) won a Division I match at Oxnard.
It was the first playoff victory in school history for Oxnard, which advanced to a second-round match at Santa Monica on Tuesday.
Setter Alfred Reft controlled Oxnard’s offense and defense, finishing with 10 digs, 16 assists and seven kills. Mike Lavaglio added 10 kills and eight digs.
Valencia def. Peninsula, 15-12, 15-7, 16-14--Corey Feldt had 16 kills and Chris Haigh had 14 for the host Vikings in a Division I match.
Chris Savage added 11 kills for Valencia (27-4), which plays Highland in a second-round match Tuesday at a site to be determined.
Highland def. Downey, 15-4, 15-10, 15-4--Trent Sorensen had 13 kills and four blocks for the Bulldogs (25-6) in a Division I victory at Highland.
Alemany def. Paraclete, 15-13, 15-3, 15-0--Darrin Phillips had 14 kills and Tony Walker had seven kills and five aces for the Indians (12-5) in a Division IV victory at Paraclete.
Harvard-Westlake def. Nordhoff, 15-5, 15-0, 15-6--The Wolverines (14-5) cruised in a Division IV match at Harvard-Westlake.
