Hufford Wins Award for His Public Service

Former Chief Administrative Officer Harry Hufford has been awarded the Earl Warren Public Service Award.
The award, presented by the Los Angeles chapter of the American Society for Public Administration, is given to civic leaders who have made an “outstanding, sustained contribution” in the Los Angeles metropolitan area.
Other recipients include former President Reagan, a former California governor; former Los Angeles Mayor Tom Bradley, the late Los Angeles County Sheriff Sherman Block and retired Los Angeles Times Publisher Otis Chandler.
Ventura County Chief Administrative Officer Johnny Johnston accepted the award Thursday night for Hufford, who is out of the country on vacation. Hufford served as the chief administrator for Los Angeles County from 1974 to 1985 and worked as interim chief administrative officer in Ventura County from December 1999 to this past March. He retired from public service on April 1.
