Horwitz Sparks Glendale Upset

Jon Horwitz doubled twice and Glendale College defeated Riverside, 9-5, in a Southern California regional baseball game Saturday at Riverside.
Glendale (32-10), seeded No. 6, advanced to today’s final of the four-team, double-elimination tournament.
Riverside (38-7), seeded No. 3 and the defending state champion, defeated Cerritos, 5-1, in an elimination game on Saturday and needs to defeat Glendale twice today to advance to the second round next weekend.
The first game is at noon.
In other games:
CS Northridge 9, CS Sacramento 1--Andy Davidson struck out nine in seven innings and Tim Arroyo drove in three runs with two hits for the Matadors (30-22, 8-9) in a Big West Conference game at Sacramento.
Pepperdine 3, Portland 2--Noah Lowry struck out 11 in 6 2/3 innings and Jay Adams pitched 2 1/3 innings of scoreless relief for Pepperdine (38-15, 24-5) in a West Coast Conference game at Malibu.
Rock Mills and Duke Sardinha each doubled for Pepperdine.
Men’s Tennis
Pepperdine 4, Indiana State 1--Sebastian Graeff and Stefan Suter of Pepperdine (19-7) defeated Jonas Pibor and Stefan Hirn, 8-1, in an NCAA championship second-round match at Indiana State (26-5).
Women’s Tennis
Penn 4, Pepperdine 3--Cintia Totorella and Maren Mueller won at No. 2 doubles for Pepperdine (18-9) in an NCAA championship first-round match at Baylor.
Fresno St. 4, CS Northridge 1--Tia Kaasalainen was the only winner for the Matadors in the first round of the NCAA championships at Fresno State.
