Canyon Country Canyon placed third in the boys’ race of champions in the Great American Cross-Country Festival in Rock Hill, S.C.
The Cowboys, ranked 16th in the nation by Harrier magazine, had 202 points to finish behind seventh-ranked Kingwood (Texas), which had 162, and top-ranked La Salle (Ohio), which had 183.
Long Beach Poly, ranked 10th, placed sixth with 229 points.
Luke Llamas of Canyon placed 12th with a time of 15:46.6 over the 5,000-meter course at Winthrop Farm Meadows. Jameson Mora was 16th in 15:52.0 for Canyon. Kevin Brulois of Long Beach Poly was 18th in 15:55.4.

In girls’ volleyball:
Palos Verdes Peninsula d. Poway, 15-5, 10-15, 15-8, 15-7--Senior outside hitter Celine Nguyen of Peninsula was the most valuable player in the Cougar Classic Gold Division tournament.
The fourth-seeded Panthers (8-1) also had junior setter Cat Svorinich and sophomore middle blocker Randi Johnson selected to the all-tournament team.
La Habra defeated Dana Hills for the Silver Division title, 6-15, 15-9, 15-10, 15-8, and Anaheim Canyon defeated Vista in the Bronze Division, 15-2, 15-6,15-12.
Fountain Valley def. Torrance Bishop Montgomery, 16-14--Brittnee Coen led Fountain Valley to the title of the Irvine University tournament in the single-game championship..
