A 10-year-old girl was in extremely critical condition Wednesday after her mother backed her car out of a driveway and collided with another vehicle, authorities said.
The accident occurred about 9 a.m. in the 16300 block of Roscoe Boulevard in Van Nuys.
The girl, whose name was not released, suffered a severe head injury and “was fighting for her life,” said Brian Humphrey of the Los Angeles Fire Department.
Rescue workers freed the girl and rushed her to nearby Van Nuys Airport, where she was airlifted to Childrens Hospital Los Angeles.
The girl’s 42-year-old mother, who suffered a fractured ankle, was listed in fair condition at Northridge Hospital Medical Center. The other driver was not injured.
