Man, Son Seriously Hurt in Backyard Fire

A 41-year-old man and his 8-year-old son were critically injured Monday when the father lighted a haphazardly constructed backyard barbecue and flames engulfed them.
The barbecue was made of stacked serving trays, stainless steel grates, particle board and other material and ignited with an unapproved accelerant, a Fire Department spokesman said.
The fire, in the 9500 block of Lev Avenue, caused second- and third-degree burns.
