Charity Parody Fell Flat

On Dec. 8, Steve Lopez’s column dredged up Joe McCarthy and his ranting. Lopez used “pinko politics,” home values in Malibu and weekend movie revenues to describe some people he believes do not support charities in L.A. Nowhere does he show how he knows that these people do not support charities. Just because they are in the entertainment field or just plain wealthy proves nothing.
I thought the “big smear” was long discredited. His poem was a pitiful attempt to denigrate a particular group of people, while making no mention of millions of others here in L.A. who do not put their hands in their pockets.
