When I read “She Can Scratch This Memory of Italy Off Her List” (Nov. 24), I was surprised to find that author Priscilla Lister mentioned three times that Italians in Italy did not speak English. Why would she expect that the Italians in Venice would speak English?
As a Frenchwoman who lives in California (and speaks English), I am shocked at this way of thinking.
