Nobel peace laureate Elie Wiesel urged a strong punishment for former Bosnian Serb leader Biljana Plavsic, telling the U.N. war crimes tribunal at The Hague that the sentence will set a standard for centuries.

Plavsic has pleaded guilty to persecuting Muslims and Croats during Bosnia-Herzegovina’s 1992-95 war.
