Birmingham’s Keyes Is City Player of Year

Dennis Keyes, a running back and defensive back for Lake Balboa Birmingham, has been selected City Section football player of the year by a panel of sportswriters.
Keyes, who committed to UCLA before Bob Toledo was fired as coach, rushed for 133 yards in the Patriots’ 35-7 victory over Woodland Hills Taft in the City Championship game Friday at the Coliseum. He is reconsidering his college choices.

Darryl Williams, a defensive back from Anaheim Servite, has committed to Colorado State. Williams was the Serra League defensive player of the year. He had nine interceptions, 74 tackles and nine pass deflections. Williams also had 13 catches for 343 yards and three touchdowns.

Nick Stiggers, a 6-foot-8 senior at Van Nuys Montclair Prep who was considered one of the top basketball players in Southern California, has checked out of school and returned to Tennessee, Athletic Director Ken Smith said.
Stiggers transferred to Montclair Prep last season. He returned to his home in Tennessee during Thanksgiving and didn’t come back.

Pitcher Taylor Bills of Paloma Valley, infielder Luis Hernandez of Santa Ana Mater Dei and outfielders Brett Bigler of Santa Ana and Aaron Seuss of Palm Desert have signed with the UC Riverside baseball team.
