A North Hollywood High School student was being sought Tuesday in the shooting death of a female classmate.
Jamarie Johnie Chatrie, 18, of North Hollywood is suspected of shooting Shadene Thompson, also 18, shortly after 11 p.m. Monday outside an apartment building in the 11200 block of Huston Street in North Hollywood, Los Angeles Police Det. Vince Bancroft said.
Thompson and two male friends had attended a party in the building and were outside talking when Chatrie approached, Bancroft said.
According to witnesses, Chatrie told Thompson several times to go home. When she refused, he pulled out a small-caliber handgun and shot her, Bancroft said.
The two North Hollywood High students had a “previous dating relationship,” and Chatrie “must have thought it was more than it was,” Bancroft said.
Thompson was pronounced dead at 11 a.m. Tuesday at a Mission Hills hospital, police said.
