Chamber Music Selected for O.C. Dvorak Series

The Pacific Symphony has announced details of two chamber music concerts to complete its “Dvorak in America” festival, April 17-25 at the Orange County Performing Arts Center in Costa Mesa.
On April 20 at 3 p.m., pianist Robert Thies, Pacific Symphony musicians and festival artistic consultant and Dvorak scholar Joseph Horowitz will explore American Indian musical influences on the composer. On April 21 at 7:30 p.m., Thies, orchestra musicians, Horowitz and scholar Michael Beckerman will focus on African American influences. Both programs will be in Founders Hall.
As announced, the festival will open April 17 with Mstislav Rostropovich playing Dvorak’s Cello Concerto and close April 24 and 25, with Allison Eldredge performing Victor Herbert’s Cello Concerto No. 2 on a program that also includes Dvorak’s “New World” Symphony, his “Hiawatha Melodrama” and George Chadwick’s Scherzo in F.
