A man who called himself “Dr. Chaos” and was accused of storing cyanide in the Chicago subways was charged in Milwaukee with committing 53 acts of vandalism.
Joseph Konopka, 25, was accused in an indictment of targeting power installations, telecommunication equipment and air navigation systems in 13 Wisconsin counties. He was charged March 11 in Chicago with possession of a chemical weapon.
U.S. Atty. Steven M. Biskupic said Konopka caused more than $800,000 in damage and 28 power outages affecting more than 30,000 power customers. The FBI said he claimed to be the leader of a group known as the Realm of Chaos.
