Jack Carava, who is on his way to the Oak Tree training title, will send out Snoopy Cat in today’s third race, which begins a pick six with a carryover of $81,917, and Sunday In Moscow in the sixth.
Those who bet an all-Carava late pick three Wednesday cashed thanks to victories by Glitteringmischief, who was winning her fourth in a row at 4-5, and 6-1 shots Cease Span and Concussion.
Snoopy Cat, the 7-2 second choice on the morning line, is shortening up and moving to the grass in the third, a $50,000 claimer for 3-year-olds down Santa Anita’s hillside layout. He has a grass win and should be a late threat under jockey Corey Nakatani.
Three races later, Sunday In Moscow is the 5-2 favorite against nine other 3-year-olds in the seven-furlong race for $25,000 claimers. He’s seeking his first win since being claimed by the barn for $32,000 on July 29 at Del Mar.
Race of the day: The fifth is an interesting 6 1/2-furlong turf race for 2-year-old maidens and marks the return of Hall of Fame jockey Julie Krone, who will be riding Justly Royal. The Royal Academy filly is 8-1 on the morning line.
Who’s hot: Warren Stute. The ageless trainer has won with five of his first 15 starters at Oak Tree.
Who’s not: John Campo Jr. The New York-based trainer is two for 115 in 2002.
Exotically speaking: A pick three using Last Tango, the entry of Revillew Slew-Lunar Surprise and She Rocks in the first, singling Total Limit in the second and Lou’s Expectation, Snoopy Cat and Saphir Indien in the third.
Winners: Previous day/meet total: 3/66. Money: Previous day/meet total: $20.80/$373. Total money bet: $406.
