A 71-year-old man who was arrested at a Los Angeles International Airport security checkpoint with a cane containing a hidden 18-inch knife was indicted Friday by a federal grand jury.
Amir Farhang Motamedi of West Los Angeles told authorities that he had bought the cane at a Chinatown store and hadn’t known there was a knife inside.
Motamedi, who had reservations for a flight to Zurich, Switzerland, was arrested Oct. 2 after he passed through a metal detector at the Bradley International Terminal.
Free on $150,000 bond, he is scheduled to be arraigned Monday on a charge of attempting to carry a concealed weapon onto an aircraft.
