From Times Wire Reports
South Korean lawmakers authorized the dispatch of noncombat troops to support the U.S.-led war against Iraq.
The National Assembly decision came hours after President Roh Moo Hyun said the deployment would strengthen the U.S.-South Korean alliance, thereby helping to peacefully resolve a standoff with North Korea over its suspected nuclear weapons program.
The one-house assembly voted amid antiwar sentiment in South Korea and concerns that the United States might eventually attack North Korea.
