Dial to Pay $10 Million to Settle Lawsuit

Dial Corp., maker of Dial soap and Purex detergent, will pay $10 million to settle a sexual-harassment lawsuit brought by the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission and avoid a trial set to start today.
The settlement allows Dial to avoid risking a verdict that could have exceeded $27 million if jurors found Dial created a hostile working environment and more women joined the suit.
The EEOC said Scottsdale, Ariz.-based Dial tolerated displays of pornography, lewd remarks, threats, stalking and physical assaults at the plant. Dial denied tolerating sexual harassment.
