Liberty’s Discovery Unit Posts Rise in Earnings

Liberty Media Corp. said operating income at its Discovery Communications unit more than doubled in the second quarter as its cable networks attracted more viewers.
Discovery’s operating income rose to $96 million from $37 million in the year-earlier period, Liberty said. Discovery’s revenue rose 18% to $490 million. Liberty, based in Englewood, Colo., owns a 50% stake in Discovery.
