Former Compaq Exec to Head Dell Unit

Dell Inc., the fastest-growing vendor of external data-storage equipment last year, hired a former Compaq Computer Corp. executive to run the business.
Darren Thomas, 52, who oversaw storage-business development at Compaq before it was bought by Hewlett-Packard Co. last year, was named vice president and general manager of Dell’s storage division.
Dell shares fell 13 cents to $31.93 on Nasdaq.
