U.S. wholesale inventories rose 0.5% in October, the biggest increase this year, as companies tried to keep enough goods on hand to meet improving sales.
Stockpiles jumped to $291.2 billion for the month after rising 0.3% in September, marking the first back-to-back increase since February-March, the Commerce Department said. Sales increased 2% in October, the most since May 1999, after a 1% rise.
