Making an effort during holidays

I really enjoyed Barbara King’s “Drawn In to the Season, in Spite of Myself” (Dec. 4) and understand where she is coming from. I know people who are alone, for the most part, who don’t bother to decorate.
I am by myself with two cats. It is easy to say I don’t want to bother, but putting up a tree or just a big vase of poinsettias really helps; putting up some lights, such as those beautiful magnolia lights in the photo, is so important to our well-being. I agree with her “that all those people who get with the program and put fresh green wreaths on their doors” are wonderful.
