* The Conference Board releases its report on consumer confidence for December.
* Chicago Purchasing Managers index is released.
Wednesday
* New Year’s Eve. Stock markets are open for a full session, but the Chicago commodities market closes at 9 a.m. PST and bond markets at 11 a.m.
* Labor Department reports on weekly jobless claims.
* Freddie Mac reports on mortgage rates.
Thursday
* New Year’s Day. Most stock markets are closed.
Friday
* Institute for Supply Management releases December report on manufacturing.
