N.Y. Holiday Bustle

Re “It’s Slow Going on These City Sidewalks,” Dec. 28: Like Santa at Macy’s and the tree at Rockefeller Center, sprinting angrily past herds of tourists is a New York holiday tradition. Be honest: New Yorkers love it. Few pleasures are more sublime than the smug confidence that brims inside you as you charge briskly down a Manhattan street past a busload of parka-embalmed Canadians swiveling to look at the Empire State Building. Even savvy visitors may aspire to this condition after a hectic week. In New York, there is no more universal feeling of having arrived.
